The resistance sections of our workouts are important for toning muscles and improving strength. Many of our members use bottles of water or tinned foods to replace the weights when they first start training.

However, if you want to invest in a set of dumbbells this is a great investment and we recommend NEW exercisers begin with 2-3kg weights and more advanced exercisers go for anywhere between 4 and 10kg.

Over time you will probably want to go for heavier dumbbells to continue progressing.

You can read through our information on choosing the correct weight for you in our 'sculptors' guide' - this document teaches a lot about resistance training, as well as highlighting the 'ideal' scenario for which weights you should use.

Page 7 is where the information on weights to use begins, but you will probably find the whole thing useful.
